This year's guest speaker was social media consultant Lindsay Maines, who gave an in-depth presentation on the professional uses of such social media platforms as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. In addition to Lindsay's presentation, the audience broke into small groups to discuss various topics within social media. For those with questions and concerns, there was a lively discussion on the merits of this new media and its impact on the audience's personal and professional lives.
The event was "live tweeted" from Patton Boggs' Twitter account using the hashtag #PBWomensForum. To see what was said in detail, visit http://twitter.com/pattonboggs. Women's Refugee Commission June 2009 At its June monthly meeting, the Patton Boggs Women's Forum hosted Dina Dublon and Joan Timoney from Women's Refugee Commission. Ms. Dublon, co-chair of the organization, spoke to the group about the Commission's mission since being founded in 1989. The Commission advocates for laws, policies and programs to improve the lives and protect the rights of refugee and internally displaced women and children from around the world. Ms. Dublon also spoke in general about the impact individuals can make through leadership and service whether via a donation of money or time or by learning more about a cause and sharing the information. DC Lawyers Volunteer Project May 2009 Jenny Brody, Erin Larkin, Karen Barker Marcou and Daisy Rosen from the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project delivered a presentation on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 to the Patton Boggs Women’s Forum about the legal challenges facing victims of domestic violence.
Their mission is to tap into the stream of lawyers who have taken time off from practicing law full time to provide pro bono legal services to local low-income women, children and families tangled in domestic violence, custody, guardian ad litem, foster care and other family law cases.
The non-profit group works to place children in safe environments and to protect women from being abused with protective orders from the court.
The non-profit group provides volunteer lawyers with malpractice insurance, office space, legal research tools, training and mentoring, so that they can use their skills to help some of the District’s poorest and most vulnerable residents find a life of stability.
The group started out last year with three lawyers handling four cases. Over the past year, the group has grown to over 50 active volunteers who have helped more than 65 clients achieve safety and stability in their lives. In the coming year, they hope to expand both their caseload and practice areas.

April 2009 Denver Women's Forum Networking Event to Benefit Work Options for Women The Denver Women's Forum hosted its first event of the year: a networking reception that benefited Work Options for Women (WOW). The turnout at the event was about 60 people and $1,500 was raised (all proceeds from ticket sales went directly to WOW).Cafe Options (WOW's newest culinary skills classroom) was the setting for the evening, and food included smaller "versions" of items on the cafe's regular menu. The event was a good opportunity for attendees to mingle with business associates while at the same time Cafe Options got exposure as a new downtown business lunch destination. WOW's mission since 1997 has been to help give homeless and impoverished women the training and skills necessary to be successful in the work force. It began as a partnership between a social worker and a chef, and the program continues to provide participants with the skills they need to work in foodservice. For 16 weeks, women are taught foodservice skills in a commercial kitchen that serves more than 300 meals a day. Cafe Options is the newest "classroom" for the program; with the added benefit of 100% of proceeds from breakfast and lunch sales going back into WOW. Upon graduation, the women are placed in foodservice jobs with a rate of 86% still being employed after 12 months. This is far above the national success rate of similar programs. For more information, please visit the program's website at www.workoptions.org.

2008 EVENTS - Women's Forum Luncheon - Running Start
October 2008 Patton Boggs Women’s Forum hosted Running Start’s “Path to Politics.” October’s program is one in a series of seminars being presented throughout the year. The panel will discuss “The Importance of Running and Losing.” Running Start is an organization that brings young women to politics so that they are knowledgeable about the process, invested in the outcome, and interested in participating as elected leaders. Their programs educate the public about young women’s unique role in politics and the importance of getting more young women engaged and involved in politics. By educating young women and girls about the importance of politics, and imbuing them with the skills they need to be leaders, we will give women the “running start” they need to achieve greater political power. With an earlier start in politics, women will climb higher on the leadership ladder, allowing more women to share in the decision making power of this country. More>>
